The history behind Six18 House

Six18 House is set on land that dates back to the 1700’s when the city was under the rule of the Spanish government. A French notary map shows the sale of the land to Pierre Belly in 1801, predating the formal reinstatement of the French government and the subsequent Louisiana Purchase. Around the time Pierre was the wealthiest man on the Mississippi River. In 1917, construction was completed for the 618 N. Rampart multi-family building. In the 1960’s a new commercial building was erected on site which became the home of an independent TV station (WWOM) which claimed to have the first 24hr broadcast schedule in the Nation. Most recently the building was the home of a well-known Italian restaurant, but since then the building has become distressed. In the past few years, the city of New Orleans has invested significantly in developing and beautifying N. Rampart Street and has made substantial progress. One project of particular significance was the construction of a street car line on N. Rampart that recently began operating for the first time in 67 years. The street car passes directly in front of Six18 House. ELIT Group acquired the property in late 2017 with the mission of reviving this historically significant site and transforming the distressed building into four luxury three-story residential units with a retail space on the ground floor.
